<p style="text-align: justify;">I feel so great! That was fabulous. I just had my first Swedish massage. Why did it take me so long to discover this. Having had one, I now know that this is one of the more modern-day massages. It was developed in Stockholm, Sweden, just a few centuries ago. It relieves tension by rubbing muscles in the direction of the blood flow. This is in order to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you are new to massage, heres something you should know. It is not a great new cure, no this art has been practiced throughout the world. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments; and even Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. So, how is this cure practiced? Well, there are a variety of methods, over 250 to be precise. Some include tapping, kneading, vibration, rocking, applying pressure to muscles, stroking and compression! Massage is the manipulation of superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue. This is done to enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being.<span id="more-367"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With any massage, special equipment is used for Swedish massage. As these therapists are self-employed, he/she will have his/her own equipment consisting of a table with a horseshoe shaped head support for ease of breathing while lying face-down. It has a padded surface which is easy to keep clean and remain hygienic. Mats and pillows are also used for additional support. With the increased interest in massage therapy, this job field is growing.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are five basic strokes of Swedish massage which are sliding, kneading, tapping, friction and vibration. Pain relief and joint stiffness, as well as poor circulation can be helped with this. Lotion can be used to stimulate the skin and reduce friction.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Upon receipt of a regular body massage, a specific area will be targeted. Swedish massage targets both physical and mental well-being. The body will have less stress and will feel more harmonious and in sync. When our bodies and minds are at peace, we will heal better, not only mental scarring, but our physical scars will heal faster. This is the whole theory behind this type of massage. Full body and mind awareness will add to our inner calmness, therefore helping us to live more peaceful lives.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At a time where our bodies are so uncomfortable, and we need to be as healthy as possible, we should know about this! We know about the discomfort we are in when we are pregnant. We have problems breathing. These symptoms can be eased, possibly eliminated. Throughout my three pregnancies, my pain could have been eased if only I had known about this. This would have been a great gift to give me at a baby shower. Keep in mind that massages can help eliminate waste products from the mother through the lymphatic and circulatory system, thus giving the mother more energy. Check your local spa. See if this is something you should investigate. Im sure you will love it!</p>

<p>It is not easy at all for a beginner who has read something about fitness or to whom somebody described exactly how to do an exercise, to do it impeccably starting with the first sessions of training. Many times he has the impression that he does a movement correctly, even when he can see himself in a mirror from the gym. But only the experienced &#8216;eye&#8217; of an instructor who has worked many programs for beginners is able to correct him effectively.</p>
<p>On the other hand, it is possible for the beginner to have the feeling that his modality of doing the exercises is wrong. If this is not the case, he needs, again, the instructor, to assure him his performance is correct. It is dangerous for the fitness practitioner&#8217;s health and body state to self-educate from the first sessions. There are many positions, angles, programs of the machines which could be unadvisable in different situations, determined by every person&#8217;s characteristics. Some examples of these particularities are: deformations of the spine, old accidents, operations, limits of the mobility of the joints, etc.<span id="more-252"></span></p>
<p>Another advantage of working under the supervision of an instructor is a good choice of exercises, machines, movements, which helps avoiding any risk of accidents.<br />
The role of the fitness instructor is not limited to working with beginners. Even the advanced might have the tendency to &#8216;cheat&#8217; in doing some exercises or to introduce really difficult exercises, necessitating closer supervision. Also, an experienced sportsman might need, from time to time, a look &#8216;from the outside&#8217;, which could help him perfect his technique.</p>

Some cultural or social incompatibility between the trainer and the practitioner could make their communication, which is so important in this relation, really difficult.</p>
<p>However, the benefits we can have from working with a competent trainer are much bigger than the possible disadvantages and they make the effort of the sportsman more effective.</p>

Tread carefully when buying over the Internet.  Some companies, like Landice and True, will void your warranty if bought over the Internet and some have restrictions on delivery distances from an authorized dealer.  If in doubt, call or email the factory.  Another issue related to Internet buying is delivery.  Many of us in the business know how difficult it is to ship a single treadmill or elliptical without having it damaged so deal with a company that has been doing it a long time and has already learned how to do it.  Another issue to keep in mind is what you are going to do if you don’t like the machine.  Most companies accept returns but the cost to ship the treadmill back to the factory can easily cost hundreds of dollars so it is quite an expensive trial test if the machine is returned.  Also curbside delivery literally means what it says…the trucking company will sit it on the curb and it’s your problem to get it into the house, so either pay for inside delivery or have help ready.  Another issue is service…some internet companies have good service networks and others don’t but remember that you probably won’t get the type of personalized service you should expect from a local dealer.<br />

If you are considering used machines, really do you homework, and then do it again.  We do rebuilding jobs for local health clubs all the time and do this work occasionally for people who are buying health club models for the home but to do it right costs quite a bit and if someone is telling you they have a used or rebuilt at an amazing price, you typically aren&#8217;t getting the entire story.</p>
<p>6. Since buying a treadmill is a huge investment for most people, choose your dealer and factory carefully.  As with any product, a brand new company may not be around in a few years, parts can be very specific to machines and spares may not be available if the factory isn’t around.  A dealer for a reputation for high quality and personalized service is necessary for some people.  Other people feel confident in servicing their own equipment, so figure out which one you are and buy accordingly.  If you know one end of a wrench from the other, you might want to save a few dollars with an Internet purchase.  Others may need to pay for the full-service price you should get from a local dealer but if you pay the higher price, demand the higher service level.</p>
<p>7. Treadmills and ellipticals are different than many other home appliances.  Remember, we rate a treadmill average if it has a breakdown only once every 5 years…that’s average!  Extended warranties can make sense if the manufacturer has a short warranty and if you get it from a reputable extended warranty company.  Remember the dealer is typically not the warranty provider and many have gone out of business over the years and others are hard to deal with.  For instance, UTS (Icon’s warranty company) is the best we have ever dealt with.  If you get an Icon machine, buy the UTS warranty…it will be well worth it.  UTS’s number is 800-677-3838.  Also, Sears has a good extended warranty program and it typically pays for itself if you use the machine.  On the other hand, we have had problems with the company called N.E.W. and many others have gone out of business so do your research on your warranty company if you have never heard of them.</p>
<p>8. A great final tip is if you want to save a bit of money.  Due to the influence of Asian parts, the lower end treadmills and ellipticals are getting better and better while the price is holding the line and the ones being made today in the $800 range are much better than the $800 machines made 10 years ago.  If you need to save a few bucks and your doctor says it is OK, use a few degrees of incline always when you use your machine.  If the machine is well maintained and if you use a bit of incline (on the treadmill), you can get by with a bit less of a machine than you might otherwise need.  The incline allows gravity to take over quite a bit of the workload from the drive system.  A treadmill used with just a slight incline will last much longer than a comparably cared for treadmill that is used at a flat level.</p>
